The Fund dates back to the Russian Crown treasury instituted by Emperor Peter I of Russia in 1719.
The Diamond Fund (Almazny Fond – in Russian) is one of the museums behind the powerful Kremlin Walls. Despite its location, it does not officially belong to the Kremlin Museums and in the official website there is hardly any information about it. As though it doesn’t exist.
Not only does it exist, but it also is one of the 3 most valuable collections in the world, along with the Crown Jewels in the UK and Imperial Crown Jewels of Iran. The Moscow Diamond Fund is like a “state within a state” with its own rules, set by the Ministry of Finance.
